Rolex first introduced their now iconic Datejust in 1945 as a way to commemorate their 40th anniversary. The Datejust in and of itself was revolutionary, as it marked the first time a mechanical wristwatch featured a date complication. The new innovation was then encased in Rolex patented oystercase. This marked the production of the first waterproof wristwatch case that was made at scale. The Rolex Datejust remained largely unchanged for the better part of 6 decades. Over that time period, the Datejust saw variations in both bezel and dial designs. The dial variations included sunburst, tapestry, Buckley, pie pan, sigma and, our favorite: linen. Call us biased but we love gold, and there is nothing like a champagne linen dial. We've paired it with a dark brown ostrich strap to compliment the rich champagne tones. DIAL: The factory original pie-pan Rolex tritium service dial is in fantastic shape. The silver sunburst dial is clean and free of any major staining, patina, blemishes or otherwise imperfections. The dial sports gold baton style hour markers and matching hands. The tritium on the hands have to a warm creamy hue while the lume plots on the dial are several shades lighter.
CASE: The previously polished 36mm steel case is in great shape. The case illustrates strong lines along the lugs. The anterior portion of all four lugs presents with a beautiful brushed finish while the midcase is mirror polished. The acrylic crystal was replaced sometime in the past and the case is completed by its original gold Rolex crown.
MOVEMENT: Rolex automatic self winding caliber 1570. 25 Jewels, 19800 frequency, 48h power reserve. Service history is unknown. The watch winds, sets and runs and is currently keeping good time.
BRACELET: Comes on the pictured like new TUNS Ostrich strap complete with quick release spring bars.
